Five, Four, Three, Two, One, Have a Great Ride!

We are excited to feature our very first rider on our blog, Maddie Bauer from Dallas, Texas! Maddie reached out to us on our opening day to have an eventing themed custom design made. Her specially made "Have a Great Ride" Women's Tee is now available in our Rider Collection and can be purchased here. Maddie will be repping the On The Left brand at her barn very soon! In the meantime, let’s get to know more about her!

Maddie is a15 year old Area V eventer who currently trains at Windmill Stables. Her current trainer is Maggie McClanahan, who has been coaching for over 15 years and has trained under top riders such as CCI**** eventing superstar Bruce Davidson, Sr. and Grand Prix dressage rider Reese Koffler-Stanfield. Maddie has been riding over 9 years now total, with 4 of those years in eventing.

“[I] remember always looking forward to camp and going to see my family in Illinois to ride their horses. After years of begging, my 11 year old self had enough.” She recalls with a laugh. Maddie then took it upon herself to find a barn in her area and start taking English lessons. The real experience that got her hooked on eventing was her very first beginner novice event on a pony named Princess, where they took home a 4th overall!

Maddie’s current show partner is a 20 year old Polish Arabian named Bennett, who started his second career off after a 14 year retirement from his first job as an endurance horse! Bennett and Maddie clicked on their first ride! The pair were able to work through Bennett’s enthusiasm for a new start (he was literally bucking for joy), and eventually make it to their first hunter show!

Their very first cross country school was definitely “eventful” (Sorry we had to.) “He wasn't quite sure what to do.... But he did think whatever he was doing was quite fabulous, so he kept doing it.  It resulted in some hilarious pictures and a great time!”  (See photo below)

From there, horse and rider have accomplished a ton, with plans to move up to Novice level this year. At home, the pair loves to ride completely tackles together, which totally shows their amazing bond!

Maddie’s goals for the future are to one day ride in 4* competition. She also would like to go back to her western roots for a while, and eventually try out all disciplines of riding.
